Geoff Meyerkord Law Firm Powers Growth with Switch from Trialworks to Neos

Kelsey Meyerkord, JD, has worked for her family’s firm in a variety of roles since they opened their doors in 2019. The firm initially relied on Google Sheets and DropBox to manage the practice but soon switched to Trialworks. They made the jump to Neos in 2020, just months after Trialworks and Needles merged under the Assembly umbrella, and are now happy Neos users.

Geoff Meyerkord Law Firm is a small, family-run personal injury firm in Chesterfield, Missouri. When the firm went looking for a cloud-based litigation/trial-centered case management system, they considered other options. Ultimately, they chose Neos for ease-of-use features like the ability to tag emails.



Before Neos

Before Neos, remote access required a VPN, which Kelsey says was terrible and often failed. That meant remote work was more complicated and less accessible. Additionally, Trialworks had limited integration options that could help streamline cumbersome processes, and it took more work to keep track of tasks and case statuses.



With Neos

As the firm grows, there are more cases to track and manage. Case Checklists, custom dashboards, Notes and other features make it easy to provide top-notch service to an increasing number of clients.

Robust Checklists + Automations = Major Boost in Productivity

Checklists play a key role for the firm, keeping the workflow running smoothly and making it easy to see what’s been done, who handled the task, and what’s up next. Tying automations to the Checklist has made them even more valuable and provided a greater boost to productivity. For example, a simple click on the Checklist item “invite client to portal” sends the client an email with the sign-up link. Trialworks did not offer any automation features and the firm loves this time-saving feature.



Remote Access Opens Up New Possibilities

Cloud-based Neos not only offers attorneys and staff quick, flexible access but has allowed the firm to retain a great employee who moved out of state and is now fully remote. Without the cloud-based system, Kelsey says the firm would have been out an experienced staffer who would have been very hard to replace. Now, they’ve added a second fully remote worker to the team.

Integrations Add Power to the Platform

Kelsey says integrations help the firm get the most out of both Neos and the integrated platforms they’ve chosen to activate. Today, she loves the Outlook and CasePulse integration, though the firm plans to make use of further integrations in the near future. Integrating the CasePulse client portal makes it simple and intuitive for clients to share accident photos, documents, and other files through the portal and have them automatically added into their case files in Neos. That cuts down work for the staff while offering a better experience for the client.



Notes Keep Everyone in the Loop

With multiple people touching a case file, it’s important to have an easy way for anyone in the firm to see what’s happening with the case. Kelsey says the firm is small, but not so small that it’s efficient to pop next door and ask “Did you send that email?” With Notes, anyone involved in the case or managing the file can quickly see what’s been done and by whom. That’s a big benefit today, and one Kelsey believes will make an even bigger difference as the firm continues to grow.



What We Love About Neos

Kelsey loves the custom dashboards that let everyone in the firm keep track of what matters most in their role. For example, the firm’s Chief Operating Officer has a dashboard that shows her all cases, which is essential for keeping tabs on employee caseloads and cash flow. Kelsey is the only one in the firm who handles some non-injury cases like criminal defense and traffic tickets, so those cases reside on her dashboard. She says having all of her pending cases in front of her makes a huge difference.



She also loves Neos’ training–both the support they received from their Assembly trainer and the training hub. The on-demand videos in the training hub were especially helpful to her as she was changing roles in the firm after passing the bar and needed to make fuller use of the system.



Kelsey expects to see even more value as the firm expands their use of Neos and its integrations, including a RingCentral integration that wasn’t available in Trialworks. They also plan to use templates more extensively, integrate accounting, and take more advantage of the new data visualization capabilities with Neos.



“I would say, you have to try it. For us I think the cost was the scariest, but it’s worth it. You have to invest in the things that you use every day.”
